The Efficiency Paradox

Niklas Modig

Keynote - in English

Efficiency is misunderstood concept. We tend over focus on individual, team or functional performance. As a consequence, we often sub-optimize our organizations by developing “efficient islands".

Research shows that island thinking can be extremely problematic. Even if our metrics and KPIs indicate that all islands are efficient, the company as a whole is usually not! The more we try to squeeze out from each island the more we will loose sight of our customers. This will in turn develop a situation where the organization lacks understanding of the big picture and what true value creation is.

In fact, the more efficient islands we have, the more inefficient our organisations will be.

During this keynote Niklas will explain how to resolve this efficiency paradox.
